Mental health first aiders at DGPS

At Dove Green Private School, the wellbeing of our students and staff is at the heart of everything we do. As part of our ongoing commitment to mental health, we are proud to introduce our team of Mental Health First Aiders, all fully qualified and accredited by Mind Matters.

These dedicated members of staff have completed professional training to support mental health in schools. They are equipped with the skills and knowledge required to recognise early signs of mental health challenges, provide initial support, and guide individuals to the appropriate help when needed.

Why mental health first aid is important

Mental health is just as important as physical health. By having trained Mental Health First Aiders within our school, we ensure that every member of our community has someone they can turn to — someone who will listen with empathy, maintain confidentiality, and offer reassurance and support.

Meet the team

We are proud to have the following staff members serving as Mental Health First Aiders at Dove Green:

  • Miss McCombs – Assistant Primary Principal

  • Miss Bennett – Primary Art Teacher

  • Miss McDonnell – FS2 Teacher

  • Miss Archer – Year Five Teacher

  • Mr Dray – Head of Student Affairs

  • Mrs Adeyemi – Secondary Science Teacher

  • Mr Somers – Head of Sport

  • Mr McClure – Secondary PE Teacher

  • Mr Hunter – Secondary PE Teacher

Each member of this team brings compassion, awareness, and a supportive presence to our school. Whether a student is feeling anxious, a colleague is facing a tough day, or someone simply needs to talk, our Mental Health First Aiders are here to help.

Creating a supportive school environment

At Dove Green, we believe that a caring and inclusive environment is essential for learning and growth. By investing in mental health training and prioritising emotional wellbeing, we are taking an important step toward building a stronger, healthier school community.
