Role: Music and MFL Teacher (Foundation and Primary)
Started at DGPS: January 2023
Professional Background
Mrs Sgroi was born in Brazil and raised in California, USA, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University, Northridge. She later completed a Postgraduate Degree in Education at the University of Nottingham.
Mrs Sgroi has taught in Singapore and Dubai and has been part of the Dove Green Private School community for almost five years. Since January 2023, she has been teaching Music and Modern Foreign
Languages (MFL), bringing together her passion for both subjects to create engaging and meaningful learning experiences for her students. Having lived in Brazil, the United States, England, Singapore and the UAE, Mrs Sgroi has experienced firsthand how music and language can bring people together across cultures. These experiences inspire her to create an inclusive classroom where every child feels valued and encouraged to share their own unique background and experiences.
My Teaching Philosophy
“I believe that children learn best when they feel engaged, confident and inspired through an environment that nurtures a sense of belonging. Music and languages are powerful tools for communication, creativity and self-expression. I love seeing children discover their own ways to express themselves.”
Children can expect a welcoming and positive environment where they feel safe to take risks, ask questions and express themselves.
Lessons are designed to be engaging, interactive and hands-on. Students will have opportunities to:
- Explore and create music through singing, movement and instruments.
- Develop language skills through songs, games, stories and conversation.
- Learn about different cultures and traditions from around the world.
- Collaborate with their peers and celebrate each other’s successes.
- Build confidence, creativity and independence as learners.
“One thing I can guarantee is that we will have fun together while we learn!”
Outside the Classroom
Outside the classroom, Mrs Sgroi enjoys singing, travelling and exploring different cultures through food.
She particularly enjoys making food from scratch and is currently learning the art of cheesemaking. She
loves discovering new places, trying new recipes and finding inspiration from the people and cultures she encounters along the way.
A Message to Families
” Thank you for taking the time to read about me. I am excited to be part of your child’s learning journey and look forward to a year filled with music, language, creativity and plenty of fun! I believe children learn best through play, and I am here to support and encourage them as they explore new sounds, a new language and new ways to express themselves.”
