All About Miss Aquila
Role: Music Teacher (Primary and Secondary School)
Started at DGPS: August 2024
Professional Background
Mrs. Aguila is entering her third year at DGPS after relocating from Abu Dhabi. Originally from Cuba, she moved to the United Arab Emirates in January 2019 and brings over 10 years of teaching experience in music education. This includes four years of teaching in British-curriculum schools in the UAE, as well as extensive experience at prestigious music conservatories in Cuba.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Aguila has taught students from Year 1 through to GCSE Music, inspiring young musicians to develop their creativity, confidence, and performance skills. She is passionate about nurturing a lifelong love of music and believes that every child can flourish through meaningful musical experiences, whether singing, performing, composing, or playing an instrument.
Mrs. Aguila holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music with Piano as her major and a PGCEi from Liverpool John Moores University, England. She is dedicated to creating engaging, inclusive, and inspiring music lessons that help every student discover their potential and develop a lasting appreciation for music.
My Teaching Philosophy
“I believe every child should have the opportunity to enjoy and succeed in music. My aim is to create a
supportive and engaging classroom where students feel confident to explore, perform, make mistakes, and grow. I want my lessons to inspire creativity, build musical skills, and foster a lifelong appreciation for music while ensuring every student feels valued and encouraged to reach their full potential.”
What Children Can Expect in My Classroom
- A welcoming and supportive environment where every child feels confident to explore, perform, make mistakes, and grow as a musician.
- Engaging, practical lessons filled with singing, playing instruments, listening, composing, and performing, helping students develop both musical skills and creativity.
- High expectations with encouragement and guidance, where every child is inspired to challenge themselves, work collaboratively, and develop a lifelong appreciation and love for music.
Outside the Classroom
When she’s not teaching, Mrs. Aguila enjoys reading, exploring new destinations, keeping fit at the gym, and swimming. She loves sharing time with family and friends, trying new restaurants, and experiencing different cultures through travel. These interests reflect her belief in continuous learning, personal wellbeing, and finding inspiration beyond the classroom, which she brings into her teaching every day.
A Message to Families
“I’m excited to support your child’s musical journey and help them develop both their skills and confidence throughout the year. By working together, we can create a positive and encouraging environment where every child feels inspired to be creative, enjoy learning, take pride in their achievements, and reach their full potential.’
