All About Mrs Curtis

Mrs Curtis has been part of the Dove Green Private School community since 2017 and is currently Deputy Primary Principal, with responsibility for Curriculum and Assessment.

After completing a Primary Education degree at Canterbury Christ Church University, Mrs Curtis began her teaching career in Kent, UK, before moving to Dubai and joining Dove Green. During her time at DGPS, she has taught across Key Stage 2 and held a number of leadership roles, including Head of English, Head of Key Stage 2 and Assistant Head, before progressing into her current role. She completed the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL) last year and is also an ICF-trained coach, reflecting her commitment to developing both her own leadership practice and the people she works alongside.

As Deputy Principal, Mrs Curtis works closely with teachers and leaders across Primary to ensure that the curriculum is ambitious, engaging and responsive to the needs of every child. She has a particular passion for assessment and using our understanding of children’s learning to ensure that every child is appropriately supported, challenged and able to make the best possible progress.

One of the things Mrs Curtis values most about Dove Green is the opportunity to truly know the children as individuals.

“In a smaller school, we have the privilege of knowing our children by name, rather than simply as numbers within a year group. Even though a large part of my role involves curriculum, assessment and analysing progress, there is always a child behind the data. We know their personalities, their strengths, the things they find difficult and what motivates them to succeed.”

For Mrs Curtis, this is also what makes Dove Green feel like a genuine community school. Staff have the opportunity to build strong relationships not only with children, but with their families too.

“Community is something many schools talk about, but at Dove Green I believe we genuinely live it. We know our families, our doors are open, and there is a real partnership between home and school. That sense of connection is one of the things that makes DGPS so special.”

At the heart of this are the children themselves. Mrs Curtis believes that the students at Dove Green are what make the school such a special place. Their enthusiasm, curiosity, kindness and eagerness to learn are what make working at DGPS so rewarding, and she values the opportunity to watch them grow in confidence and independence throughout their time in Primary.

Mrs Curtis believes that academic success is only one part of a child’s education. She wants children to leave Primary as confident, curious and independent learners who enjoy learning, embrace challenge and recognise what they are capable of achieving
