All About Mr Deakin
Mr Deakin completed his Degree in Mathematics and Secondary Education in 1997. He worked in the UK for 23 years and is experienced in a variety of roles. He is well skilled in building curriculums across all key stages and has led at every level within the mathematics departments he has worked in. He has been a pastoral leader and a teaching and learning coach and has enjoyed taking students skiing in Europe and North America.
In 2020 Mr Deakin moved with his family to Qatar to work at at a British Curriculum school where he embraced the opportunity to work with students from all around the world. During this time in Qatar Mr Deakin took responsibility for KS4 including additional mathematics and taught at all key stages. He was selected to be part of the schools outstanding teacher committee and helped implement a new assessment policy which has improved student progression. Mr Deakin is a passionate and enthusiastic educator who has a reputation of building strong relationships with his students. He is committed to getting the very best outcomes for his students. He has a great sense of humour and if you come into his classroom you might just find Mr Deakin singing the quadratic formula. He is committed to extra-curricular activities ranging from Duke of Edinburgh Award to Karaoke.
When asked, why did you chose DGPS as your next school to work at? Mr Deakin replies:
It is very rare in education to have the privilege to take a school into IGCSEs and IA Levels for the first time. I am excited to be part of the team that will take DGPS on the next stage of the journey.
